The Smartphone market is amidst intense competition among the market leaders Samsung, Apple and Nokia. Apple is out of the question until its subsequent release of iPhone 5S. Lumia 1020 and Galaxy S4 are the high-end flagship establishments from the arch rivals respectively.

The Samsung S4 is currently the prominent market-killer garnering maximum sales while Lumia 1020 is a recent release, which Nokia plans a run for it’s money. If you have shortlisted these two Smartphones, It would be a rather difficult choice to make, I’ve faced the same problem myself. So, lets compare both the smartphones on the basis of different aspects

  • Design

For smartphone connoisseurs like me, design plays a key role while choosing a Smartphone. The Lumia 1020 sports an unparalleled and elegant Unibody design with sharp precise edges.

On the other hand, Samsung continues to sport its trademark much-despised plastic look. Moreover, its exact same design layout similar to Samsung’s other flagships such as S3, S2, S and Grand which is disappointing. So, Lumia 1020 is the winner in this aspect.

    Hardware

Samsung never fails short of hardware specifications, it always manages to be the pioneer. The S4 is equipped with a 2 GB Ram and powerful quad-core Qualcomm 600 Processor which is clocked at 1.9 GHZ.

While, the Lumia 1020 manages to stay behind with mere Snapdragon S4 Processor clocked at 1.5 GHZ featuring 2 GB as well. Samsung is clearly the winner in this aspect. However, Lumia 1020 doesn’t compromise in live performance, and it renders an almost equal smooth performance.

    Display

Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch display endured by Gorilla Glass (Accidental Protection) rendering elegant Full HD 1080p Super AMOLED Display. It has a pixel density of 441 and bears no problem in display even during a bright hot summer day. It delivers sharper edges and vibrant colors with true to life video playback.

On the other hand, Lumia 1020 features a 4.5 inch screen with AMOLED display rendering 332 Pixel Density. It obviously falls short behind of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of display.

    Camera

It’s a straight-forward fact that Lumia 1020 is equipped with an exceptional camera and S4 is far behind. In fact, it isn’t a fair battle to compare Lumia’s whopping 41 MP cameras with S4′s disappointing 13 MP Camera.

It isn’t just the megapixels that Nokia boasts of, it’s intuitive camera also features image stabilization, optimization functionality with a powerful Xenon Flash. It manages to capture brilliant shots during motion and pitch dark scenarios as well. It literally replaces a high-end point and shoot camera.

While S4′s camera isn’t a failure either. Although, it couldn’t perform similar to it’s counterpart, it still capture true to life snapshots in daylight, while it performs very poor during motion and low-light scenarios.

    Battery

Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped with a powerful 2,600 MaH battery, while it’s counterpart Lumia 1020 features a disappointing 2,000 MaH battery. But wait, don’t get fooled by the figures.

Lumia’s battery manages to power-up longer than the former. S4’s larger display and battery draining nature of Android OS contribute to its meager battery level despite its powerful battery.

    Operating System

Android vs Windows? It is one of the heated up debates in the gadget world. Each ones features its own merits and demerits. Windows is definitely still in its hatching stage, although it is equally equipped with significant functionality compared to Android. It’s major setback is lack of apps and developers.

Android don’t have proper document management tools like Office, while Windows has Office productivity suite for smartphone, which enables you to access PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and use templates like Education templates from sites like fppt.com.

Android marketplace is a huge eco-system of open source developers leading to emergence of millions of apps to take credit for in its platform. I still find several popular apps missing in Windows. Another significant difference is the battery life, Windows proved out to be more power efficient compared to the former.

    Conclusion

Both these smartphones out rival each other in numerous aspects. Therefore, there is no direct verdict. It finally breaks down to your personal choice. You can choose Lumia 1020 due to its exquisite build quality and design and not to mention it’s intriguing camera and Windows integration.

While most of the users will prefer Samsung Galaxy S4, due to it’s superior performance and display, along with innovative gesture support, Retina tracking functionality.
